We at Benjamin Vineyards & Winery subscribe to the principles and practices of Sustainable Winegrowing. We base our business on the three guiding principals of sustainability; Environmental Stewardship, Social Equity, and Economical Viability. Some examples of our commitment to these principles are:
Environmental Stewardship: Benjamin Vineyards is a "Zero Discharge" facility. All of our agricultural materials are composted and used to enrich the soil of the vineyard. Our paper, glass, cardboard, and wood are recycled at the local county recycling center. We generate no process wastewater from our winery operations. Our vineyards are pesticide-free, and we only use environmentally friendly fungicides. We are active supporters of the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association and the Haw River Assembly.
Social Equity: At Benjamin Vineyards, we believe in giving back to the community. Nancy is on the board of directors of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Public School Foundation and is on the board of directors of the Haw River Assembly. Andy serves as President of the Hawbridge School Board, a Saxapahaw environmental magnet school. We allow local non-profit charitable organizations free use of our facilities for fund raising, and contribute a percentage of out gross revenues to local charities.
Economic Viability: Benjamin Vineyards & Winery is a founding member of the "Saxapahaw Chamber of Commerce" and is a member of the Alamance/Burlington Chamber of Commerce. We continually support the economic growth of the area by purchasing our vineyard equipment and agricultural supplies through local vendors. We are members of four local Co-Op stores that promote local farms in the Piedmont area. We also sell our grapes and wines at eight local farmers markets. During the harvest season, we open our vineyard for "pick your own" grapes so our customers can enjoy fresh muscadine grapes!
